Nissan has revealed new details on its next-generation 2013 Pathfinder, revealed in full production trim last week.

Confirmed earlier this year, Nissan's new seven-seater has tossed out the current model's boxy style, adopting the more organic lines finding their way across Nissan's new line-up.

The new shape also signals a move away from the outgoing Pathfinder's off-roading focus, with the new model sitting instead on the more road-focused platform of the Infiniti JX SUV.

Nissan says that the move to a car-like unibody design comes in response to declining sales for SUVs built on heavy-duty ladder-frame platforms, as buyers pursue on-road refinement and greater fuel economy.

Thanks to the switch, the new Pathfinder weights up to 225kg less than its predecessor, coming in at 1882kg in front-wheel-drive form, and 1946kg for the all-wheel-drive model.

Power

Power for the new Pathfinder is provided exclusively by Nissan's trusty 195kW/336Nm 3.5 litre V6 engine driving the Murano and Infiniti JX, matched to Nissan's Xtronic CVT automatic transmission.

Front- and all-wheel-drive versions will be offered, with the more capable four-paw version featuring Nissan's All-Mode 4x4-i system with 2WD, 4WD and auto modes.

In front-wheel form, Nissan lists overseas fuel consumption figures at 10.7 l/100km, climbing to 11.2 1/00km for the all-wheel-drive version.

Features

Nissan has previously revealed that, like the all-new Patrol due later this year, the new Pathfinder will feature a more premium feel to the cabin (although not quite to Infiniti levels).

Features will include leather trim, heated and cooled front seats, heated second row, heated steering wheel, a 13-speaker Bose sound system, iPod connectivity, and push-button ignition.

Tri-zone climate control will also be available, along with a powered tailgate, DVD screens for the second row, Nissan's Around View monitor (uses multiple cameras to show a full exterior view), and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

Inside, the new Pathfinder will offer seating for seven occupants, and both the second and third rows can fold flat for increased cargo space.

Nissan also describes its EZ Flex Seating System With Latch And Glide, which the carmaker claims is the first tip-up seat compatible with a child safety seat.

Australia

Speaking with TMR today, Nissan Australia's Jeff Fisher confirmed that the new Pathfinder will make its local debut in the second half of 2013.
