Nissan has revealed details of its updated-for-2013 GT-R supercar, following its debut in prototype form at last month’s Australian International Motor Show.

These 2013 model year updates are the latest in a series of revisions since the GT-R’s 2007 debut, and are once again largely incremental refinements of the giant-killing model.

Nissan claims that these revisions are borne from feedback from its Nürburgring 24 Hour race campaign earlier this year, and result in improved performance, ride and handling, and high-speed stability.

Refinements to the GT-R’s 3.8 litre twin-turbocharged V6 include new injectors, changes to the turbochargers’ bypass valves, and a new baffle added to the sump.

These promise improvements to mid-upper rev range engine response and reduced rotational mass, while maximum power and torque remain unchanged at 404kW/628Nm.

Body-wise, the 2013 GT-R is more rigid due to reinforcements to the dash and instrument panel structures, which Nissan claims to benefit steering response and driving stability.

Suspension changes include a reduced centre of gravity, with shock absorber and stabiliser bar settings changed accordingly.

Cam bolts are now used in the front suspension architecture to improve camber accuracy and maintain wheel alignment settings, while hub bearings are now more firmly torqued to the driveshafts to better suit enthusiastic driving.

The 2013 GT-R will go on sale in Japan later this month, with export markets set to follow from January next year.
