Nissan's updated-for-2013 GT-R hero will hit Australian showrooms on February 1, the carmaker's local arm has confirmed today.
The new model year brings the latest in a series of ongoing updates to the flagship performer, which has now been on the international scene since 2007.
As always, Nissan says the GT-R's 2013 updates are borne from intensive road and track work, and data from the big coupe's Nürburgring 24 Hour race campaign have also been utilised.
The GT-R's 3.8 litre twin-turbocharged V6 picks up a number of refinements, including new injectors, changes to the turbochargers’ bypass valves, and a new baffle added to the sump.
Maximum power and torque remain unchanged at 404kW/628Nm, but Nissan promises improvements to mid-upper rev-range engine response and reduced rotational mass.
The body of the 2013 GT-R has been made more rigid through reinforcements to the dash and instrument panel structures, designed to benefit steering response and driving stability.
Suspension changes include a reduced centre of gravity, with shock absorber and stabiliser bar settings changed accordingly.
Cam bolts are now used in the front suspension architecture to improve camber accuracy and maintain wheel alignment settings, while hub bearings are now more firmly torqued to the driveshafts to better suit enthusiastic driving.
Nissan says the 2013 GT-R recorded a 0-100km/h time of 2.7 seconds in October, marking an improvement of 0.1 seconds over the 2012 model. The 2013 edition also lapped the Nürburgring Nordschliefe circuit in seven minutes and 19.1 seconds.
For Australia, a new luxury interior option will also be offered, adding genuine hand-stitched semi-aniline leather in amber red (seat and door trims, centre console).
The 2013 GT-R will go on sale in Japan later this month, with export markets set to follow from January next year.
