The all-new Mazda6 sedan and wagon will make their local debut at next month's Australian International Motor Show, the carmaker has confirmed.

Appearing in Sydney ahead of an early 2013 market launch, the new 6 range will be offered with two powertrains: the 2.2 litre SkyActiv-D diesel, and the new SkyActiv-G 2.5 litre petrol engine.

Mazda's new i-Eloop regenerative braking system will also feature as standard with both engines and across all trim grades.

Engines

Tested by TMR in a camouflaged test car last year, the SkyActiv-D diesel offers 136kW and 420Nm of torque. Fuel consumption figures peg the 2.2 litre diesel at around 4.2 l/100km.

This same engine is already available in Australia in the new CX-5, the first Mazda to get the full suite of SkyActiv efficiency and lightweight construction technologies.

While the smaller 2.0 litre SkyActiv-G engine will be offered in some overseas markets, Australian petrol options will be limited to the larger 2.5 litre mill.

This engine delivers 138kW and 250Nm of torque - 10 percent more power and 11 percent more torque than in the current previous-generation petrol Mazda6.
