The latest of nine new Lexus models has surfaced online this week in the form of the all-new ES sedan, captured in China by local enthusiast website XCar.

As with the all-new GS sedan, due here in the coming months, the new ES gets the tall new Lexus 'spindle' grille design, LED-equipped headlights, a long flowing roofline and a massively improved interior design.

Built on the same front-wheel-drive platform used by the Toyota Camry and Aurion, and sharing the same powertrains, the ES has consistently stayed at the top end of the brand's US-market sales.

As for Australia, the ES badge has not been seen on local roads since the fourth-generation model (often described as "a Camry with leather") landed in 2001.

The fifth-generation ES hit the US market in 2006, and it is that more uniquely-styled model that this all-new sedan will replace - if it does not turn out to be a version designed specifically for the Chinese market.

With the brand's local marketing focused on performance and the driving experience - and with only limited space between the midsized IS and large GS sedans - it's unlikely that we'll see the new ES here.
