Swedish supercar manufacturer Koenigsegg has whipped the covers off its latest evolution of the Agera range.

Consisting of two models - a 'regular' Agera and a more aggressive Agera R - the 2013 Koenigsegg Agera range boasts more power and enhanced handling thanks to a number of revisions.

The cylinder liners for the Agera's twin-turbocharged 5.0 litre V8 (developed in-house by Koenigsegg) now receive a friction-reducing nano-coating.

Redline for both models has been raised from 7250rpm to 7500rpm, netting a peak power output of 716kW for the base Agera. For the hard-core Agera R, power rises to an astonishing 850kW.

Peak torque is unchanged for both models, with 1100Nm and 1200Nm for the Agera and Agera R respectively.

By reducing friction between the pistons and cylinder walls the engine is not only able to make more power, but is now more fuel efficient as well.

Koenigsegg claims both Agera models will consume as little as 14.7 l/100km on the combined cycle - although we suspect that number will be hard to achieve in the real world, given the prodigious power that beckons the driver.

The Agera's engine control system has also been completely changed to provide better control of the engine. The wiring is still OBD2-compatible (important for the US market) and stability control is standard on both models.

The base Agera also receives new suspension components from Swedish suspension specialist Öhlins, however the Agera R's suspension updates are far more comprehensive.

For the 2013 model year, the Agera R will be equipped with ultra-light carbon fibre wheels, which save a combined 20kg of rotational mass to help acceleration, braking and suspension performance.

Carbon fibre winglets add 20kg of extra downforce at 250km/h, and the Agera R also get a lighter exhaust system too.

Pricing for the 2013 Koenigsegg Agera range has yet to be revealed, but as usual, if you have to ask...
