Revealed earlier this year, the XJ has picked up Jag's new 3.0 litre supercharged V6, almost completely replacing the naturally-aspirated V8 engine of the 2012 model.
In the XJ, as it does in the XF, the super-six produces 250kW and 450Nm of torque, compared to 283kW and 515Nm in the V8.
Yes, that means power is down, but so is fuel consumption: Jag promises a low 13 l/100km in city driving, an 8.4 l/100km on the highway.
The XJ also gains a new ZF eight-speed automatic transmission, replacing the six-speed unit of the current model.
XJ models powered by the supercharged V6 can also be had with Jaguar's Instinctive All-Wheel-Drive system, directing torque to the rear wheels in normal driving, and up to 50 percent to the front wheels as required.
Jaguar says the new engine and transmission combo will haul the XJ to 100km/h in 5.9 seconds (down from the NA V8's 5.4 seconds), while the existing 375kW/625Nm supercharged V8 will complete the short trip in 4.9 seconds.
For 2013, the XJ also picks up a revised suspension tune, designed to improve comfort in the stately limousine.
Outside of driving changes, Jaguar has also made its Meridian sound system available across all XF and XJ models.
Updates to the Australian-delivered XJ are expected to arrive toward the end of this year.
