Producing a hearty 404kW and 680Nm of torque, the big superV8 will propel the R-S to 100km/h in just 4.6 seconds - two-tenths shy of the XKR-S, and not far from the 412kW/680Nm BMW M5's 4.3 seconds.
An Australian debut for the big blue cat is expected to occur around the middle of next year, the carmaker's local arm has confirmed today.
Pricing is yet to be revealed, but we expect the XFR-S to land between the price of the $210,400 XFR and the $339,500 XKR-S Coupe. Rivals the M5 and E 63 AMG are priced at $229,500 and $240,485 respectively.
The XFR-S was developed by Jaguar's hardcore ETO arm and draws on the enhanced engineering of both the XKR-S and the new F-Type roadster, putting it a good step ahead of the existing XFR hero.
The supercharged V8 is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission that gets a 'Quickshift' system developed for the F-Type, rather than the six-speed auto in the XFR and the XKR-S.
A neat bit of new technology in the transmission is 'Corner Recognition', designed to hold its gear when it senses that the big sedan is about to forge its way through a curvy spot of road.
Underneath, there's overhauled front and rear suspension, with revised spring rates and an adaptive damper tune that Jaguar reckons has increased lateral stiffness by 30 percent.
The active electronic rear diff has been recalibrated, as has the dynamic stability control, and it all sits on wide 20-inch forged alloy wheels and Pirelli 265/35 (front) and 295/30 (rear) rubber.
Other tweaks include new wheel bearings, revised suspension knuckles with increased camber and castor stiffness, a new rear suspension subframe with revised geometry, stiffer bushes and new knuckles.
An extensive use of carbon fibre aerodynamic bits reduces lift by a huge 68 percent, and there's also a number of carbon and dark aluminium highlights in the cabin.
The XFR-S gets a big hole-filled bumper up front, while the rear-end gets a tweaked version of the XFR's bumper and a big wing on the boot lid.
