Jaguar has revealed details of its new powertrains for the recently facelifted XF range, dropping the V8 while adding two new engines and the option of all-wheel-drive.
Expected in Australia later this year, the updated XF gets Jag's brand-new supercharged V6 - replacing the 283kW atmo V8 - and a Ford-sourced turbocharged four-cylinder.
The new 3.0 litre super-six is available in two states of tune: 250kW/450Nm and 280kW/460Nm. It's the 250kW version that now powers the XF, while the latter will drive the F-Type roadster that will debut in Paris next month.
Power may be down when compared to the big V8, but so is fuel consumption: where the eight-cylinder unit slurped through 11.3 l/100km, the supercharged six promises a drop to 9.4 l/100km.
Those savings are also thanks to a stop/start system, and the addition of ZF's eight-speed automatic transmission, replacing the existing six-speed unit in the XF.
The turbo-four replaces the naturally-aspirated 175kW/293Nm 3.0 litre V6 in the XF, again replacing the current six-speed auto transmission with the eight-speed ZF unit.
Some markets will also have the option of Jaguar's Instinctive All-Wheel-Drive system, designed to direct torque to the rear wheels under normal conditions, and up to 50 percent to the front wheels as required.
The XF Supercharged and XFR are still on the books, both driven by Jag's supercharged 5.0 litre V8. The XF S will give you a 4.9 second run to 100km/h, while the more handling-focused XFR lists a 4.7-second run.
Outside of driving changes, Jaguar has also made its Meridian sound system available across all XF and XJ models.
Updates to the Australian-delivered XF are expected to arrive toward the end of this year.
