The new convertible's international arrival follows months of teasers, spy photos and, in the past week, a flood of leaked press shots.
If you listen to Jaguar, the F-Type heralds a new dawn for the British marque, bringing new engines, a new platform, and best-in-class dynamics.
It will take a full road-test to confirm Jaguar's claims, but the new cat's factory figures hold plenty of promise.
Three versions of the new roadster will be offered, opening with the basic F-Type, graduating to the F-Type S and the range-topping V8 S.
Engines And Features
Power in the F-Type and F-Type S grades is delivered by the same brand-new supercharged 3.0 litre V6, producing 250kW in the base model and 280kW in the S.
The entry F-Type promises a 0-100km/h time of 5.1 seconds, while the up-spec F-Type S cuts that time to a blistering 4.8 seconds.
Jag claims a top speed of 260km/h in the base model, and 275km/h in the S.
Moving up to the supercharged 5.0 litre V8, power is rated at a very hefty 365kW and 625Nm, offering the quickest 0-100km/h time of 4.2 seconds. Top speed, appropriately, is a big 300km/h.
All three versions are equipped with an eight-speed Quickshift automatic transmission, with no manual on offer.
Underneath, you'll find aluminium double wishbones at both ends, and a super-fast steering rack.
S models also get an 'Active Exhaust' and the option of a 'Configurable Dynamics program that adds a lap timer and a G-meter display.
The new Jag benefits from an aluminium chassis, with claimed rigidity gains 30 percent higher over other Jag models.
The F-Type offers a driver-focused cabin - an arrangement that Jaguar calls "1+1" - setting the pilot's seat apart from the passenger pew with a broad centre console and a large (and likely very necessary) hand grip.
"The Jaguar engineering team focused on delivering greater dynamic driving reward than ever before," Jaguar's Ian Hoban said.
"To make that a reality, every engineer has had very tough targets to hit: every one of those targets has been met and, in many cases, exceeded, making the F-TYPE a car that delivers precisely the key sporting attributes that we intended.”
