Infiniti has confirmed it will unveil a new "luxury sports sedan" at January's Detroit Auto Show, and the smart money is on the 2013 G midsizer.
The new G range will replace the current fourth-generation G25 and G37 models, which first debuted in G37 form back in 2006.
Spied testing in recent months, the 2013 G sedan will be larger than its predecessor, with power in the G37 expected to come from an updated version of the existing V6 engine.
A four-cylinder engine, sourced from development partner Mercedes-Benz, is also expected to be offered in some markets - likely replacing the 2.5 V6 in the current G25.
As with the current range, new iterations of the G Coupe and Convertible are also expected to join the range as rivals for the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
The current G37 Coupe and Convertible models are scheduled to join the Australian line-up next month, but Infiniti's local operation will skip the existing sedan in favour of the coming new model.
When the G models make their Australian debut, they'll join the recently launched M sedan and FX SUV.
