2013 Hyundai i40 Premium Gains New Safety Tech For Australia

Hyundai has added new standard safety features to top-spec Premium variants of its i40 midsized sedan and i40 Tourer wagon.

For the 2013 model year, Premium variants pick up Hyundai's 'Smart Parking Assist' and 'Lane Departure Warning and Assist' functions.

Smart Parking Assist, like other similar systems, scans an available parking space and then steers the car into place, leaving the driver to operate just the throttle and brake. 

Lane Departure Warning uses a windscreen-mounted camera to monitor lane markings, alerting the driver of any deviation (without indicators) from their lane via a chime and visual warning on a new 4.2 inch colour LCD screen.

The integrated 'Lane Keeping Assist' uses the i40’s electric steering assistance to bring a wandering driver back within their lane.

Both Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keeping Assist are switchable, and are only active at speeds over 60km/h.

These features join the existing five-star ANCAP-rated list of safety features fitted to all i40 models, including nine airbags, ABS, stability and traction control, speed-limiting cruise control, and hill-start assist.

The i40 is now Hyundai’s sole mid-size model in Australia, following the discontinuation of the larger i45 model in January.

These new features add $1000 to the manufacturer’s list price of all i40 Premium variants.
