Ford's next-generation Transit Connect light van has been given an early and unceremonious unveiling this month, with new images making their way out of the European Patent Office.
Like the larger Tourneo Custom that debuted in Europe earlier this year - and the new Transit vans that will follow - Ford's new small van gets a more car-like face, with the carmaker's familiar styling language.
The cargo area of the new Connect maintains the utilitarian boxy shape of its predecessor, with the two large barn doors at the rear flanked by slender new taillights.
The new Transit Connect also picks up a sports-minded approach to its profile, with a rising belt-line and sharp character line replacing the slabsided look of the current model.
As with the current model and its Volkswagen Caddy and Citroen Berlingo rivals, the new model will likely be offered in passenger and utility styles.
An official announcement for the new Transit Connect has yet to be made, and it remains unclear if this new model, unlike the current generation, will come to Australia.
The Volkswagen Caddy remains the top seller among sub-2.5 tonne vans in Australia, its 586 year-to-date sales drawing the likes of the Suzuki APV (166), Holden Combo (129) and Citroen Berlingo (84).
