Ford has rounded out its upcoming Mondeo line-up with an unveiling this week of the new wagon and five-door liftback-hatch bodystyles.

Previewed earlier this year as the US-market Fusion sedan, the new Mondeo range is expected to hit Australian shores toward the end of next year.

In Australia, the new Mondeo range will square off against the likes of Mazda's new and equally-sleek 6 range, and the newly introduced Opel Insignia - the latter expected to get a refresh before the Ford's local debut.

While the new Mazda will launch in sedan and wagon form only, it is unclear if Ford will bring all three Mondeo styles to Australia.

Internationally, the Mondeo will be offered with a number of Ford's EcoBoost petrol engines, including 133kW/240 1.6 litre and 177kW/340Nm 2.0 litre options.

Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid models will also be offered, pairing a 2.0 litre with an electric motor, for a combined output of 135kW and a 5.6 l/100km city-cycle.

European models will also get Ford's new 92kW three-cylinder 1.0 litre engine. While this mill will be offered in Australian-delivered Fiesta and EcoSport models, it is unlikely to hit the local Mondeo.
