Ford's all-new 2013 Mondeo is here at last. Well, not quite. What visitors to this week's Australian International Motor Show will see is actually America's Ford Fusion.

Don't be put off, though. The Fusion is a twin to the Mondeo we'll get in Australia, likely toward the end of next year.

The car shown in Sydney is the sedan variant, but five-door liftback and wagon variants have also been revealed in Europe. In Australia, we can likely expect the wagon, along with either the sedan or the liftback.

Here, the new Mondeo range will square off against the likes of Mazda's new and equally-sleek 6 range, and the newly introduced Opel Insignia - the latter expected to get a refresh before the Ford's local debut.

Overseas, engine options for the new Mondeo will include 133kW and 177kW 2.0 litre EcoBoost engines, along with Ford's new 92kW 1.0 litre engine - the latter also bound for the Fiesta and EcoSport cars.

International Mondeo/Fusion models will also get Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid variants, pairing a 2.0 litre with an electric motor, for a combined output of 135kW and a 5.6 l/100km city-cycle.
