Ford Australia has taken the sharp pencil to its local Fiesta line-up, announcing significant price cuts across the range.
The entry-level Fiesta CL models score the biggest cuts, with $1500 slashed from both manual and auto models.
This drops the manual model's list price from $16,990 to $15,490 - a saving of nearly 10 percent.
Adding a further sweetener, Ford has also added side curtain/thorax and driver's knee airbags as standard, along with a seatbelt reminder - all previously a $600 cost-option for the Fiesta CL.
This upgrade to the CL's safety kit brings the base model in-line with the other ANCAP 5-Star rated Fiesta variants.
The mid-spec LX petrol and diesel models have had $1200 lopped from their list price (see full list at bottom of article), while the range-topping Zetec models - petrol and diesel, manual and automatic - have had $500 clipped from their sticker prices.
Ford's local Fiesta range is otherwise unchanged, with power provided by 1.6 litre petrol and diesel engines, depending on specification.
A better car than its fifth-place ranking in the hotly-contested light-car segment suggests, the Fiesta has real driver appeal. Ford will be hoping the repositioned prices will add momentum to sales before the arrival of a refreshed line-up next year.
