Ford's Lincoln luxury marque isn't the only one getting a kick in the pants this week, with GM's reborn Impala giving the Chevrolet brand a new style injection.
Revealed at this week's New York Auto Show, the new 2013 Impala, along with the US-market Traverse SUV, debuts a new family face for the Chevrolet brand. (The 'old' grille is only just now coming through to Holden cars... - Ed)
Engine options for the Impala will include a pair of 135kW 2.4 and 145kW 2.5 litre four-cylinder petrol engines, along with a 3.6 litre V6 engine producing 225kW and 355Nm of torque.
All three engines will be paired exclusively with a six-speed automatic transmission, with power sent to the front wheels.
Among the new Impala's safety features are Full-Speed-Range Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
Built on the extra-long version of GM's Epsilon II platform (dubbed Super Epsilon II), the new Impala shares much of its technology with Cadillac's new XTS large sedan.
In its shortened form, the Epsilon II platform can be found beneath the Opel Insignia and the Chevrolet Malibu, both on their way to Australian showrooms this year (the Malibu as a Holden).
We won't see this Impala with a Holden badge, but if Holden's Commodore is to be retired at the end of the upcoming VF's lifetime, we could see the next new Impala here.

Discontinue the Commodore now this looks the goods
really? "i like big butts and i cannot lie"
I cannot understand why they'd make this car FWD. It does look good though. Anyone else think the front end (head lights) like like an Aurion?
*look like
FWD chev impala with no V8 option. The world must be ending.
v8 is redundant when v6 pumps out 225kw and 335nm!Honestly, what's the point aside from the sound?
Not everyone wants a V8!!!! Do bring this car to Aus! :-)):-)):-)) :D:D:D :rolleyes::roll eyes: B-/B-/B-/
FWD....Meh!...not interested!
It looks very Japanese to me, especially at the front. I don't think I like it. Nice interior though, GM seem to be doing that better and better.
Front half looking quite good and carries some Camaro genes with the face then somehow the styling's become a bit confusing mid-way, especially with the lower-mid body crease and at the rear overhang is way too long.. could translate into some bumpy ride I suspect.
That is a sharp looking car. Can't wait to see it in person. Nice job Chevy:)
