BMW's updated Z4 roadster has landed in Australia this week, bringing a number of small styling tweaks, more features and new options.

BMW has also added its eight-speed automatic transmission as standard to the four-cylinder models - although a six-speed manual remains a no-cost option - and the sDrive35is retains its seven-speed dual-clutch auto.

Revealed in December, the updated Z4's styling revisions include a "dynamic sweep" to the side indicators, a trio of new paint options, new interior trim choices and new wheel designs.

Upgraded features include the addition of BMW's Professional navigation system across the range, offering an 8.8 inch display, DVD drive, bookmarks, 3D map and arrow layout, and a birds-eye view option.

The entry-level sDrive20i also gains internet connectivity, smartphone music connectivity and voice control.

Moving up to the mid-range Z4 sDrive28i adds new 18-inch wheels, gearshift paddles and sports seats. The top-shelf sDrive35is adds new 19-inch wheels - up from 18-inch - along with a wind deflector.

Engine packages are unchanged for 2013:

Producing 135kW and 270Nm (power down, torque up), the turbo four-pot propels the entry-level Z4 sDrive20i to 100km/h in 6.9 seconds. Fuel use is listed at 6.8 l/100km.

The sDrive28i offers 180kW and 350Nm, offering 0-100km/h time of 5.7 seconds. Fuel use is again listed at 6.8 l/100km.

The top-spec sDrive35is gets BMW's six-cylinder turbo engine, delivering 250kW and 450Nm and a 0-100km/h time of 4.8 seconds. Fuel use is listed at 9.0 l/100km flat.

Options Packs:

The Design Pure Balance package includes sport seats, Fineline Anthracite fine-wood trim and unique leather upholstery to the seats, doors and armrests. It is priced at $3500 for the Z4 sDrive20i or $2600 for the sDrive28i and sDrive35is.

That pack can be purchased alongside the M Sport Package, cutting the price to $2600 for both the sDrive20i and sDrive28i.

The M Sport Package is available on both BMW Z4 four-cylinder variants and includes 18-inch light alloy Star-spoke styled wheels with mixed tyres, aluminium carbon interior trim, BMW Individual roofliner in Anthracite, BMW sport seats, M leather steering wheel, M sport suspension, and a specially designed aerodynamics package.

The M Sport Package is priced at $4900 for the sDrive20i, and $2900 for the sDrive28i. The Z4 sDrive35is comes as standard with a model-specific version of the M Sport package.

The new Design Pure Traction package is offered across the range and includes Alcantara/leather upholstery to the seats, armrests, doors and dashboard, sport seats for driver and front passenger, interior trim finishers in ‘metal weave’ design and an individual roofliner in Anthracite trim.

The Design Pure Traction package is priced at $2000 on the sDrive20i and $1100 on the sDrive28i and sDrive35is.

Note: All package prices are MRLP (including GST and LCT).
