BMW has bolstered its 3 Series line-up with the addition of the new 316i petrol sedan, available in dealerships from June.
Priced at $50,900 (plus on-roads), the 316i forms a new entry point for the range, slotting in below the $56,400 318d diesel and the $58,600 320i petrol.
Power in the 316i is provided by a 1.6 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, delivering 100kW and 220Nm of torque.
Matched with an eight-speed auto, BMW promises a 0-100km/h time of 9.2 seconds and fuel consumption figures of 5.9 l/100km. CO2 emissions are rated at 137g/km.
Features in the 316i match those offered with the 318d, including heat/sun protection glass, dual-zone climate control, Sensatec man-made 'leather' upholstery, leather multi-function steering wheel, storage package, and a 40:20:40 split rear backrest.
There is also BMW's 'Radio Professional' package, which includes 6.5 inch display with iDrive controller and six programmable memory buttons, as well as USB and Bluetooth connectivity.
Safety features include Dynamic Stability Control, six airbags, dynamic braking lights, anti-dazzle interior mirror and rain sensor with automatic headlight control.
Rear park distance control and cruise control with braking function are also featured.
Optional extras include the Sport, Luxury, Modern and M Sport packages. Depending on the selection, features here include surround view, lane change and lane departure warning, adaptive bi-Xenon headlights with high-beam assist, and the Harman/Kardon sound system.
