BMW's new 3 Series Touring wagon is now on sale in Australia. The line-up includes the 318d diesel, the 320i petrol and the more powerful 328i petrol - the latter available from around May.
Starting at $58,900, the 318d Touring carries a $2500 premium over the sedan equivalent, while the $62,600 320i is priced $5000 above the petrol sedan.
As with the sedan range, the 2013 3 Series Touring is larger than its predecessor, running on a wider track and with a body 97mm longer than the previous wagon.
“The 3 Series was the model for which the claim “the ultimate driving machine” was created and this hasn’t been diluted with the new 3 Series Touring," BMW Australia boss Phil Horton said.
"It takes the best of the 3 Series driving dynamics and blends this with the elegance and versatility of a sports wagon.”
Powertrains for the wagons mirror their sedan counterparts, the 318d featuring a 105kW/320Nm four cylinder turbodiesel, and the 320i driven by a 135kW/270Nm turbo petrol four.
In the 328i, the TwinPower turbo four produces a hefty 180kW and 350Nm of torque.
All three wagons get an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard (the 320i and 328i also get paddle shifters), shuffling the 318d to 100km/h in 9.2 seconds, the 320i in 7.5 seconds and the 328i in just six seconds.
Auto stop/start is also standard, along with Brake Energy Regeneration and Eco Pro driving mode for improved efficiency and emissions figures.
Fuel consumption for the diesel model is listed at a low 4.7 l/100km, the 320i at 6.2 l/100km and the 328i at 6.5 l/100km.
