Update: 2013 Australian debut likely. See BMW Australia comments at bottom of article.

In a big week of international launches for the German carmaker, BMW has revealed its all-new 3 Series Touring wagon in Europe.

As with the new sedan, the 2013 3 Series Touring is larger than its predecessor, running on a wider track and with a body 97mm longer than the previous wagon.

With a 50mm longer wheelbase than the outgoing Touring, the new model also offers an additional 35 litres of storage with the rear seats up, for a total of 495 litres. With the seats down, BMW promises 1500 litres of space.

The new '3er' wagon will launch internationally in three grades: the 180kW/350Nm 328i petrol, along with the 135kW/380Nm 320d and 190kW 330d diesels.

Other engines and configurations will join the overseas Touring range in the following year, including the 225kW 335i and, in some markets, the option of all-wheel-drive.

While many of the Touring's features mirror the new Sedan range, the wagon brings a few tricks of its own, including an electronically-operated rear window that opens independently of the tailgate.

The Touring also picks up the option of roof rails and a full panoramic glass roof.

Speaking with TMR today, BMW Australia's Scott Croaker confirmed that while the a July international debut is scheduled, an Australian launch is expected to occur early in 2013.

"We anticipate this will be a very important car for us when launched, a vehicle which couples the sensational drive dynamics of the new 3 Series with the versatility of the wagon will provide a serious alternative for customers who are considering a compact SUV," Mr Croaker said.
