Lamborghini isn't about to let the new SLS AMG Black Series hog the spotlight, releasing the first images of its new Aventador Roadster online today.

Like its hardtop sibling, Lambo's new topless terror carries the LP 700-4 designation, pointing to its 700hp (525kW) V12  engine and all-paw layout.

As expected, the Roadster features a manually removable two-piece roof that can be stored in the front luggage space. Made from carbon fibre, each panel weighs just 6kg.

The Aventador Roadster is further set apart from its coupe stablemate by the new engine hood, featuring a centre "spinal column" and two hexagonal windows, cooling the engine and draining rain away.

The rear windshield is powered and can be adjusted to control the flow of air and engine sound into the cockpit, while a wind deflector on the front windshield helps maintain a  calm environment inside.

The top part of the car - the two roof sections an the rear window area - are painted in a gloss black, creating a two-tone effect across the body.
