Audi's new turbocharged S3 Sportback hotbox has landed in Australia, priced at $59,900 plus on-roads - around $5000 cheaper than Audi had initially projected back in April.
The hot new S3 arrives six months behind the 'cooking' versions of the new A3, which hit Australia with four engine options in May.
As before, Australian buyers will only get the option of a five-door S3, focusing on the Sportback's blend of power and practicality.
The S3 is powered by Audi's 2.0 litre TFSI four-cylinder, producing 206kW and 380Nm - down from 221kW in overseas markets, but still a powerful leap over the 188kW/330Nm output of its predecessor.
Transmission options include Audi's six-speed S tronic automatic or a six-speed manual - both priced at $59,900 - and the familiar quattro all-wheel-drive system also stars here.
Audi promises a 0-100km/h time of 5.4 seconds for the manual S3, and a much sharper 5.0 seconds when fitted with the S tronic dual-clutch auto.
Despite the boosted output, fuel consumption has fallen 1.5 litres to 6.9 l/100km - thanks to the new engine technology and a 70kg lighter kerb weight.
The new S3's chassis has also come in for the usual tweaks, gaining 25mm-lower sports suspension, bigger brakes and the option of electromagnetic damper control.
On the styling front, there's a new S-specific grille, along with new bumpers and skirts and big new 18-inch wheels wrapped in 225/40 rubber.
Exterior features are rounded out with Xenon Plus headlights with LED daytime running lights and LED tail-lights.
There's also the MMI Navigation Plus package with MMI Touch recognition, Park Assist with front/rear sensors and a reversing camera, Audi Music Interface with Bluetooth, and dual-zone climate control.
The optional $4990 S Performance pack adds LED headlights, Bang & Olufsen audio, Audi Magnetic Ride suspension, diamond-stitch sports seats, new 'star' design 18-inch wheels, and red brake calipers front and rear.
