2012 VOLVO XC90

Volvo's big seven-seater XC90 has come in for an update, halving the range from eight variants to four and cutting the cost of entry by nearly $5000.

For the 2012 model year, the XC90 range will include the 3.2 R-Design and the 3.2 Executive petrol models, along with the D5 R-Design and D5 Executive diesel options.

The V8 engine has been removed from the international Volvo line-up for 2012, due to Europe's tightening emissions laws.

The Australian line-up kicks off with the 3.2 R-Design, now $4460 more affordable but with the Volvo Navigation System ($4175) and a rear park camera ($795) added as standard equipment.

"The XC90 has been Australia's top selling seven-seat luxury SUV for the past four years running due to its exceptional value for money, practicality, versatility and, of course, safety," Volvo Car Australia Managing Director Matt Braid said.

"The price revision and equipment additions for MY12 make the XC90 even more competitive in the market, especially with a starting price below $70,000."

Standard features for both R-Design models include driver and passenger power seats, auto dimming rear view mirror, speed sensitive power steering, rain sensor wipers, Premium sound, park assist rear, water repellent front side glass, Active Bending Lights (ABL), silver roof rails, Bluetooth streaming audio, 19-inch alloy wheels, Air Quality System, electrically retractable (and heated) mirrors with puddle lights and front and rear fog lights.

Both R-Design models get a unique grille design, along with scuff plates, dual exhaust outlets and silver mirrors.

In the cabin, the R-Design XC90s get embossed leather seats, and a range of R-Design catalogue items including inlays in the door handles and centre console, a sports steering wheel and gear knob, and R-Design floor mats.

The XC90 3.2 Executive is priced from $71,490 and gains the Volvo Navigation System as standard, along with speed-sensitive steering, water-repellent front side windows and a rear parking camera.

On top of the features offered with the R-Design models, both the petrol and diesel Executive models offer heated seats with massage and ventilation, and unique 19-inch alloy wheels.

Sovereign-hide upholstery is standard, along with walnut inlays on the door handles and centre console, wood steering wheel and gear knob highlights, and plush carpet.
