UPDATE: Australian details added.
The flared guards are gone, and so are the vented rear quarter panels and giant wing, but forget all that: say hello to the 2012 Suzuki Swift Sport.
Shown here with greyed-out headlights and a near-identical version of the popular S-Concept's front bumper, the production Swift Sport will make its global debut at next month's Frankfurt Motor Show.
The Swift Sport is packing a six-speed manual transmission and a revised version of Suzuki's M16A 1.6 litre petrol engine that produces 100kW at 6900rpm and 160Nm of torque at 4400rpm.
To save you from looking it up, that's 30kW and 30Nm more than the regular Swift, and 8kW/12Nm more than its sporting predecessor.
“We are very excited about the preliminary release of the new Swift Sport, but we are still some way off finalising the Australian version,” Suzuki Australian General Manager Tony Devers said.
“The Swift Sport will not go on sale here until next year, so we still have some time to work through the specification level suitable for the Australian market.”
The finer details will be revealed at Frankfurt, but for now, Suzuki promises a more refined drive than the previous model, while a revised rear suspension setup and struts with internal rebound springs promise a greater response at the wheel.
Australia
An Australian debut for the new Swift Sport is still to be confirmed (these details landed outside of Australian office hours). Watch this space for more.
