Suzuki's 2012 GSX-R1000 has been revealed this week ahead of its early 2012 Australian debut.
The new 'gixxer' offers none of the latest electronic driver aids, but with new brakes, more mid-range power and a lighter kerb weight, it should do the trick for die-hard fans.
Producing 136kW, the 2012 GSX-R1000's 999cc engine carries over from the previous model, but with the torque curve moved lower down the range, Suzuki promises better power in the middle of the range. The pistons are also 11 percent lighter.
There's a new dual Brembo monoblock calipers and new disc rotors (similar to the GSX-R750), and the Showa 'Big Piston Forks' get a 5mm shorter stroke and softer settings.
Overall weight is down by around 2kg, thanks to the new and lighter 4-into-1 exhaust and lighter brakes. There are also new high-performance Bridgestone S20 tyres, replacing the BT-016 rubber of the previous model.
The GSX-R1000 instrument cluster includes a lap time counter, adjustable shift light and gear position indicator, as well as speedometer, odometer, dual trip meters and LED indicators.
Available in Australia early next year, the 2012 Suzuki GSX-R1000 comes in a choice of two colour schemes, Metallic Triton Blue / Glass Splash White, or Metallic Matt Black / Glass Sparkle Black and is backed by Suzuki's two-year, unlimited kilometre warranty.
