The face of Subaru's upcoming BRZ rear-wheel-drive coupe peeks out from the shadows in this new teaser image, the most revealing shot yet of the production model.

The image follows last week's surprise online unveiling of the BRZ Concept STI, which will appear alongside the actual BRZ at next month's Tokyo Motor Show.

Officially, Subaru has released no new details on the BRZ since early September. However, if its insides are identical to Toyota's version of the same car, the FT-86 (we expect they are), then there's not much that isn't already known.

Leaked Toyota brochures and training guides have revealed that the FT-86 will deliver 147kW and 205Nm of torque, while offering a Cayman-rivalling low centre of gravity and a kerb weight of just 1205kg.

For now, Subaru has revealed only the car's measurements: 4200mm overall length, 1770mm width and 1270mm height. Wheelbase is listed at 2570mm.

The Japanese carmaker also revealed details earlier this year of the coupe's powertrain, confirming a version of its 2.0 litre boxer engine with Toyota's D4-S direct injection technology. This has since been detailed in the leaked Toyota pages.

Watch for more details to come at the BRZ's Tokyo Motor Show debut next month.
