Skoda Australia's Yeti line-up has a powerful new petrol flagship, with the arrival this week of the top-shelf 112TSI variant.
Joining the existing 77TSI petrol and 103TDI diesel models, the Yeti 112TSI is offered in all-wheel-drive form only, paired with manual and DSG automatic six-speed transmissions.
The 112TSI enters at $32,990 for the manual variant and $35,290 for the auto, making it $2700 cheaper than the 103TDI variants, and just $500 below the equivalent variant in the closely-related Volkswagen Tiguan range.

The Yeti 112TSI is powered by the Volkswagen Group's familiar turbocharged 1.8 litre petrol engine which, in the Skoda family, is also featured in the Octavia and Superb.
In DSG automatic form, the engine gives the Yeti 112kW at 6000rpm and 250Nm of torque between 1500 and 4200rpm.
With the manual, the engine's output is boosted to 118kW, coming online at 5000rpm. Torque remains unchanged at 250Nm, but it is available longer, from 1500 to 4500rpm.
The 112TSI claims a 0-100km/h time of 8.4 seconds in manual form and 9.0 seconds flat for the DSG.
Fuel consumption figures are listed at 8.4 l/100km with the manual and 8.2 l/100km for the DSG. By comparison, the Yeti 103TDI lists 6.2 and 6.7 l/100km respectively.
As with the 103TDI, the top-shelf petrol Yeti is offered only in all-wheel-drive form (the 77TSI being front-wheel-drive only), with torque split through a Haldex clutch and a limited-slip differential.
The system sends 96 percent of torque to the front wheels on dry sealed roads, but up to 90 percent be diverted to the rear axle where needed, distributed across the rear wheels by the limited-slip diff.
The front wheels of all Yeti models are fitted with ventilated disc brakes with single piston floating caliper, and solid disc brakes feature at the rear wheels.
Braked towing capacity is 1600kg, and 680kg unbraked.
Mirroring the equipment fitted to the 103TDI, the 112TSI's standard features include 17-inch alloy wheels with a 16-inch steel spare, automatic headlights, foglights, rain-sensing wipers, cruise control, climate control, silver roof rails and a chilled glovebox.
There is also a six-CD audio system with iPod connectivity and Bluetooth hands-free and audio streaming, and chrome highlights in the cabin.
The Yeti's VarioFlex rear seating system is also standard, creating over 20 seating position combinations.
Rear storage is listed at 415 litres with the back seats upright, but depending on the seating arrangement, it can vary from 310 to 1665 litres.
Standard safety features include seven airbags (front, side, curtain and driver’s knee), ESC, ABS brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, Anti-Slip Regulation system and a hill-hold function.
An optional Off-Road Technology Package is also offered at $290, adding hill-start assist, hill-descent control and off-road drive modes.
