It's only been on sale in Australia for little over a year, but Renault's attractive Megane has already come under the knife overseas.
Set to go on sale in Europe from March, the 2012 Megane range cops a number of cosmetic enhancements. Cabin materials have also been changed for a more upmarket appearance, and the front fascia features new LED daytime running lights and chrome detailing.
There are new engines under the bonnet.
A 1.2 litre turbocharged direct-injected four-cylinder petrol engine replaces the 1.6 litre naturally-aspirated engine, and produces 86kW and 190Nm.
With combined-cycle fuel consumption of just 5.3 l/100km, the new 1.2 turbo is capable of driving nearly 1000km before needing to refuel.
A revamped version of the existing 1.5 litre turbodiesel offers even thriftier performance.
Torque in the new diesel has increased by 20Nm, but fuel consumption drops to a hybrid-rivalling 3.8 l/100km. CO2 emissions are also an impressively low 95 g/km.
For 2012, the Renault Sport Megane RS250 gets an F1-inspired front bumper, along with blacked-out headlamp housings, new 18-inch alloy wheel designs and red stitching on its interior trim.
The RS250 also gains an overboost feature, which boosts power to an impressive 198kW and bumps torque to 360Nm when Sport Mode is engaged.
With that kind of grunt, the RS250 now has the chops to go toe-to-toe with the upcoming Volkswagen Scirocco R.
Europe will be the first market to get the updated Megane range, with deliveries slated to start in March.
Russia, the Middle East, Africa and South America will follow later in the year, however dates for the local introduction of the 2012 Megane have yet to be announced.
