2012 Porsche 911 Teased In New Video

Porsche adherents, your countdown for the 2012 911 just started ticking. The all-new sports coupe will make its global debut at September's Frankfurt Motor Show, and a new video released today has kicked off the new model's teaser campaign.

The footage shows Porsche engineers putting the new 911 through hot-weather testing in South Africa. The interior and exterior styling remain camouflaged for now, but the soundtrack is sure to whet the appetite. 

The specifics of that soundtrack have yet to be revealed, although it is believed that the new '991' 911 will be offered with a 260kW 3.4 litre flat-six engine for the Carrera and Carrera 4, and a 300kW 3.8 litre for the Carrera S and 4S.

As with (almost) all 911s, the design of the new model will be a case of evolution rather than revolution. Of the few styling changes, one significant change will be to the 911's nose - a change driven by Europe's strict pedestrian-safety laws.

The body of this test car appears slightly longer than the current model, while the headlights have a more upright look.

The wing mirrors now sprout out of the doors rather than from the corner of the A-pillar.

Reports earlier this year have suggested the new 911 will move further upmarket (along with the Boxster/Cayman twins) to make room for the rumoured new entry-level model reportedly being developed together Volkswagen and Audi.
