Peugeot 4008 Confirmed For Early 2012 Australian Debut

Peugeot has confirmed that its all-new 4008 compact SUV will make its Australian debut early next year. The new model's global unveiling is slated to take place at September's Frankfurt Motor Show.

Sharing its platform with Mitsubishi's entry-level ASX, the 4008 will enter the French brand's line-up beneath the larger 4007 - based on the Mitsubishi Outlander.

Like its larger stablemate, the 4008 will be built in Japan by Mitsubishi, alongside its own ASX.

Speaking with TMR today, Peugeot Australia's Kirin Tipping confirmed that the 4008 will make its International market debut in March, "followed by the Australian launch shortly thereafter." 

Ms Tipping said that the 4008's styling will be "loosely based" on the HR1 hybrid concept revealed at last year's Paris Auto Show - although we shouldn't expect the scissor-hinged three-door layout to carry over.

Unlike the midly-restyled 4007, the 4008 is expected to get its own unique styling that will better separate it from its Mitsubishi cousin.

Local specifications are still to be confirmed, although an announcement last year confirmed that the Peugeot will feature a Mitsubishi-supplied 2.0 litre petrol engine, along with Peugeot's own 1.6 litre diesel engine. 

All-wheel-drive and front-wheel-drive layouts are expected, along with manual and CVT automatic transmissions.

The arrival of the 4008 will boost Peugeot's local SUV line-up, currently filled by the high-riding 3008 crossover and the Outlander-based 4007. Peugeot's all-new 508 RXH Hybrid4 is also under consideration for an Australian debut.
