Mitsubishi's compact SUV, the ASX, has come in for a 2012 model-year update, gaining new features and the option of a new reversing camera across the entire line-up.

Joining the optional rear-view camera are new seat trims, new interior finishes and a new rear-centre seat armrest with cupholders.

For 2012, the volume-selling two-wheel-drive (2WD) variant, responsible for around 70 percent of all ASX sales, has gained two new option packs: Convenience and Luxury.

Included with the Convenience Pack are reversing sensors, Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity and steering-mounted audio controls. The Convenience Pack is priced at $500 RRP.

Ticking the $3700 2WD Luxury Pack option gets you the electro-chromatic rear view mirror and integrated reversing monitor, along with steering-mounted audio and Bluetooth hands-free phone controls, leather seat trim, heated front seats and a power-adjusted driver's seat.

The Luxury pack also includes 17-inch alloy wheels and front fog lamps, along with a chrome exterior highlights package - normally reserved for the top-shelf ASX Aspire.

Four-wheel-drive variants in the ASX line-up now benefit from the reversing monitor as standard equipment, along with updated trim choices and rear seat armrests with cup holders.

The range-topping Aspire variant, which already features a reversing camera as part of the in-dash MMCS infotainment system, also gains chrome highlights in the instrument cluster and centre stack.

The ASX's powertrain line-up remains unchanged, with the two-wheel drive driven by a 110kW/197Nm 2.0 litre petrol engine, paired with a choice of either a five-speed manual gearbox or automatic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).

The mid-range ASX 4WD is powered by a 1.8 litre diesel engine, producing 110kW and 300Nm of torque. Paired to a six-speed manual transmission, fuel consumption is listed 5.9 l/100km.

The ASX is covered by Mitsubishi's five-year/130,000 km whole vehicle warranty, backed up by its 10 year/160,000 km powertrain warranty and a five year/130,000 kilometre roadside assistance package.
