MINI has confirmed that its low-slung Cooper Coupe will make its global debut at next week's Frankfurt Motor Show, ahead of its Australian launch later this year.

Joining the range as MINI's first two-seater and its first 'three-box' design, the Coupe will be offered in Cooper, Cooper S, Cooper SD and JCW grades.

Australian specifications are still to be revealed, but on the international front, the Coupe's powerplants will include MINI's 1.6 litre petrol engine in turbo and non-turbo guise, along with a 2.0 litre turbodiesel for the Cooper SD.

Depending on the grade, six-speed manual and automatic transmissions will be available.

A local launch date for the MINI Cooper Coupe hasn't been announced yet, but a 'fourth quarter' launch this year is confirmed.
