Mercedes-Benz has released a new promotional video for its next-generation SL open-top tourer. The clip offers a look at the technologies and techniques used in the new convertible's construction.

The carmaker says the new SL's bodyshell weighs a full 110kg less than before, thanks to the extensive use of aluminium in its construction.

The video follows a series of images the surfaced online earlier this week, previewing the car's new "Magic Vision Control" washer system and the footwell-mounted FrontBass audio setup.

The Magic Vision Control features a heating system, along with jets on both sides of the blades, firing forward on the upstroke and backwards on the downstroke.

The FrontBass system is designed to offer crisp and clear audio, using empty cavities in the front footwells to house a pair of bass speakers.

Powertrain details for the new SL have yet to be revealed, but we can likely expect the high-spec SL 500 to utilise Merc's new 320kW/700Nm 4.6 litre twin-turbo V8 engine.
