Sydney, October 2010: the all-new and Australian-developed 2012 Mazda BT-50 makes its global debut. This week, Mazda has announced that Australia will get another world-first, with the debut in Melbourne next month of the BT-50 'Freestyle' Cab variant.

"With Australia expected to be the largest market for the All-New BT-50 it’s no coincidence that we’ve been asked to host not one but two global unveilings of this important new model. It’s only appropriate that the Australian public see it first," Mazda Australia Managing Director, Doug Dickson said.

Like its platform partner the 2012 Ford Ranger Super Cab, the BT-50 Freestyle Cab will feature two rows of seating and rear-hinged rear doors.

Combined with the regular front-hinged front doors, the BT-50 Freestyle Cab features a 1408mm-wide opening.

Rear passengers will benefit from bottom cushions that are 50mm longer than before, offering better thigh support and a more stable base for child seat fitment. The rear seat backs have also increased in height by 128mm.

The 2012 BT-50 Freestyle Cab also offers greater carrying capacity than its predecessor, with 1453 litres of space in the tub - an increase of 266 litres.

Pricing and dates are still to be confirmed, but Mazda Australia promises a late 2011 market debut.

The Australian International Motor Show opens at 6pm on Friday 1 July and runs through until Sunday 10 July at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Other new models and concepts confirmed for the 2011 AIMS include the Toyota Prius VPrius C and 2012 Yaris hatch, the new Peugeot 508 sedan and wagon,  the Suzuki Swift S-Concept, the Range Rover Evoque, the Toyota FT-86 II Concept, the Subaru XV Concept, the 2012 Audi A6 and the 2012 Jaguar XF

Appearances have also been confirmed for BMW's Vision EfficientDynamics super-hybrid concept, along with the all-new Lamborghini Aventador, the Lexus LF-Gh concept, the Mazda Shinari concept, and a preview of Australian carmaker JOSS Developments' upcoming JT1 supercar.
