The updated-for-2012 Lexus LX 570 is now on sale in Australia, following its international unveiling earlier this year.

The latest update, likely to be the big SUV's last, adds the new Lexus 'Spindle' grille design, along with revised bumpers, LED daytime running lights and mirror-integrated indicators.

For 2012, the big LandCruiser-based SUV is offered in one equipment-loaded specification, doing away with the outgoing model's Sports and Sports Luxury grades.

Topping the upgrades list is the addition of Turn Assist, applying brake-force to the inside wheels in cornering, tightening the big SUV's turning circle.

A new selectable Multi-Terrain Select function is also standard (also recently added to the LandCruiser 200 range), improving stability and traction control assistance over different surfaces.

Five terrain modes are available with the system, including rock, rock and dirt, mogul, loose rock, and mud and sand - to optimise vehicle performance for specific conditions.

A multi-terrain monitor is also standard for 2012, offering enhanced blind-spot monitoring through four wide-angle external cameras.

The LX 570's Crawl Control system has been upgraded for better off-road control, with the number of preset speeds upgraded from three to five steps.

Inside, the LX gets a modest makeover, with a restyled centre stack offering a simplified layout with fewer buttons.

The instrument panel has also been updated with a new full-colour multi-information display, along with one-touch indicators.

There is also a new metallic finish for the centre instruments and front side air vents, along with a new metallic accent above the glove compartment.

Lexus' familiar Easy Access system has been added for 2012, sliding the steering wheel and driver's seat away when the ignition is switched off.

The front seats get improved ventilation, and a 220-volt power outlet has been added to the cargo area.

Back seat passengers also benefit from a new dual rear-seat entertainment system.

Standard features for the big SUV also include Adaptive Variable Suspension, cool-box, 20-inch alloy wheels, reversing camera, front and rear clearance sonar, smart start and entry, four-zone air-conditioning, 10 airbags, Mark Levinson 19-speaker audio and Bluetooth connectivity.

Tick the $16,000 Enhancement Pack option at purchase, and you'll also pick up new steering-mounted paddle gear shifters, matched to the 570's six-speed automatic transmission.

Other Enhancement Pack features include Lexus Pre-Collision safety System, Active Cruise control, rear seat heaters, ventilated front seats, mahogany wood grain-look interior trim, including on the steering wheel.

As before, the 2012 LX 570 is powered by a 5.7 litre V8 engine, producing 270kW  and 530Nm of torque. Fuel consumption is listed at 14.8 l/100km, and carbon emissions at 350g/km.
