Jeep has confirmed that its updated Compass compact SUV will hit Australian roads later this year. The news follows the international unveiling of the refreshed Compass in December last year.
Benefiting from a company-wide styling overhaul, the Compass gets a restyled front end inspired by the new Grand Cherokee.
“This is the compact Jeep we’ve been waiting for,” Dean Bonthorne, Chrysler Australia's Senior Manager Marketing and Corporate Communications said.
“The stunning Grand Cherokee has won hearts throughout the world, so extending that design appeal to Australia’s compact SUV buyer is sure to make this new Compass a hit.”
For 2011, the updated Compass offers the same interior as the 2011 Patriot, with new soft-touch plastics and a new steering wheel with wheel-mounted controls.
Australian specifications have still to be confirmed, but, in the US market, Chrysler's Uconnect Voice Command system is also offered.
The story remains the same beneath the bonnet, with the 2011 Compass powered by Patriot's 125kW and 220Nm 2.4 litre petrol engine, along with a smaller 117kW 2.0 litre petrol engine.
Standard features include electronic stability control, electronic roll mitigation, hill-start assist and side-curtain air bags for all rows.
