2012 HYUNDAI ACCENT
Update - August 9 2011: the 2012 Accent has achieved a 5 Star ANCAP crash safety rating. Click here for more details.
The all-new 2012 Accent is making its way into Hyundai showrooms this week, available in three trims for the five-door hatch and the four-door sedan.
Slotting into the size and price bracket between the dimunitive i20 hatch and the larger Elantra and i30 models, the new 2012 Accent will face off against the likes of the Mazda2, the Ford Fiesta and the Volkswagen Polo.
Producing 91kW and 156Nm of torque, the Accent is powered by a 1.6 litre petrol engine, paired with a four-speed automatic transmission and a five-speed manual. In auto guise, fuel consumption is listed at 6.4 l/100km, while the manual uses 6.0 l/100km.
The Accent rides on a 2570mm wheelbase, with total exterior measurements listed at 1700mm wide and 1450mm tall. In sedan form, the new Accent is 4370mm long, while the five-door model is shorter at 4115mm.
With the rear seats up, the five-door offers 370 litres of storage space (seats-down figures not given), while the sedan will accommodate 465 litres of cargo.
In entry-level Active form, the Accent gets 14-inch steel wheels with hub caps, along with six airbags, electronic stability control and seatbelt reminders for all five seats.
There is also four-speaker audio with aux and USB connectivity, along with Bluetooth audio streaming and phone connectivity.
On the outside, the mid-range Elite offers an upgrade to 16-inch alloy wheels, front fog lights and chrome highlights.
In the cabin, there's gloss black highlights, a 'premium' steering wheel and gear shift knob, a centre console and a storage net in the rear. The audio system gains an extra two tweeters up front.
The range-topping Premium adds a reversing camera and sensors, along with an electro-chromatic mirror in the cabin, push-button start for automatic models, climate control and 'leatherette' (artificial leather) seats.
