Honda Australia has confirmed pricing for the all-new CR-Z sports hybrid, which makes its local showroom debut this week (watch for TMR's review in the coming days).
Three variants of the CR-Z will be offered in Australia. Kicking off at $34,990 for the manual Sport model, the range runs through to the CVT-equipped $37,290 Sport and tops out with the $40,790 Luxury model, offered with the CVT only.
All prices are Manufacturer's List Price, excluding fees and the usual on-road costs.
A full rundown on the Australian-delivered CR-Z will hit TMR in the coming hours, but here are the basics: power is provided by a 1.5 litre four-cylinder i-VTEC petrol engine developing 84kW at 6000rpm, paired with an electric motor producing 10kW.
The petrol engine produces 145Nm of torque at 4800rpm, the Integrated Motor Assist system adding a further 77Nm at 1000rpm.
Paired with either a six-speed manual or CVT transmission, the CR-Z claims a 0-100km/h time of 9.7 seconds. Overseas tests list fuel consumption at 7.6 l/100km in city driving, and 6.4 l/100km on the highway.
Honda describes the car as a 'hybrid cafe-racer'; a fusion of sport and ecological values.
Built "short, wide and low" with a lightweight frame utilising sections of high-tensile steel and alloy componentry, 16-inch alloy wheels that are 5kg lighter than the Insight's, with aerodynamic door mirrors and a three-mode powertrain - Sport, Normal, and Econ - the design intent is that it be "intrinsically fun to drive," Honda Australia Director Stephen Collins said.
The manual model comes with hillstart-assist as standard, holding the brakes for one second on an incline after the pedal is released.
On spunky looks alone, that shouldn't be too hard.
