The look of Honda's all-new 2012 CR-V was never much of a secret. A near-production concept appeared in July, and a handful of patent leaks and spy photos gave the game away well before today.

What hadn't been revealed yet was the new SUV's technical details. With today's LA Auto Show unveiling comes the full monty on the CR-V's international powertrains and features.

Driving the new CR-V is an updated version of the previous model's 2.4 litre petrol engine, producing 137kW and 221Nm of torque - up from 125kW and 218Nm.

A five-speed auto remains the standard transmission choice, and Honda has yet to confirm if a manual option will be offered (the current model can be had with a six-speed manual).

There's also a brand-new Real Time All-Wheel-Drive system with Intelligent Control, which use the conventional front-wheel-drive arrangement and adds a compact transfer case, an electronically-controlled hydraulic pump, a multi-plate clutch and left and right rear wheel driveshafts.

In front-wheel-drive form, the international CR-V lists fuel consumption figures of 9.0 l/100km, while the all-wheel-drive version is listed at 9.4 l/100km.

These figures are estimates provided by the US EPA however, and official consumption figures could differ before we see the new CR-V in Australia.

Overseas models equipped with Honda's new Intelligent Multi-Information Display will benefit from a text-message reading system, although it's unclear if this will be offered locally. More standard features are expected, including USB and Bluetooth connectivity.

A local launch for the new CR-V has yet to be announced, although a second-half 2012 debut is expected. TMR has contacted Honda Australia for details, watch this space.
