Honda's all-new 2012 Civic Hatch will hit Australia next month, less than a year on from its Frankfurt Motor Show unveiling in 2011.

The news follows the local launch of the new Civic Sedan in February, which debuted with three trim grades and a top-shelf Hybrid model.

While the sedan is offered in VTi-L, Sport and Hybrid grades, just two models will be offered in the Hatch range: entry-level VTi, and the up-spec VTi-L.

Both versions are powered by the updated 1.8 litre four-cylinder engine found in the Sedan (and in the previous model), producing 104kW at 6500rpm, and 174Nm of torque at 4300rpm.

Fuel consumption is listed at 6.1 l/100km in manual form, and 6.5 l/100km with the automatic. Honda's fuel-saving Eco Assist, Econ Mode and improved aerodynamics are featured.

Honda Australia also confirmed last year that a diesel model will join the local line-up in early 2013.

With the five-door Civic Hatch sourced from Europe, the diesel engine is expected to be the updated 119kW/350Nm 2.2 litre i-DTEC four-cylinder engine offered in that market.

Features

Features in the cabin include USB and iPod connectivity, along with Bluetooth audio streaming in the VTi-L.

Honda's multi-information display carries over from the new Sedan into the Hatch, and there is also a new tilt and telescopic steering wheel with steering-mounted controls.

All have a black interior, and the VTi-L gets leather trim and heated front seats.

Standard safety features include six airbags (front, side and full length curtain), Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure, Vehicle Stability Assist (ESC), Honda’s G-Con technology, tyre deflation warning system and a reversing camera for the VTi-L.

The new Civic Hatch carries a five-star ANCAP crash safety racing.

Pricing

Pricing for the new Civic Hatch will be revealed closer to launch.
