Honda Australia has announced new price cuts to its Accord family car for 2012, bringing the entry-level VTi below $30,000.

Cutting $4300 from the four-cylinder range opener, Honda has positioned the VTi with a drive-away price of $29,990.

The mid-spec VTi-L, powered by the same 133kW 2.4 litre four-cylinder engine, has shed $2800 with a new Manufacturer's List Price of $37,190.

At the top of the range is the 202kW Accord V6, now $2700 cheaper with a Manufacturer's List Price of $47,290.

For features and styling, the Accord range remains unchanged for 2012, with its last major update coming early last year.

As one of the oldest offerings in the local large car market, the Accord has fallen out of favour with buyers. Year-to-date, just 101 Accords have found homes in Australia, compared to 733 for the same time in 2011.

The figures for April alone are considerably more worrying, with just eight Accord sedans sold - down from 224 in April last year.

In contrast to the Accord's poor performance, the equally-ageing (but evergreen) Accord Euro has nearly doubled its 2011 sales, with 2637 cars rushing out of showrooms so far this year, compared to 1445 by the end of April 2011.

New models are not far away: January's Accord Coupe concept previewed the next gen model, while last month's C Concept offered a preview of the next Accord Euro.
