General Motors has opened the box on its Holden-designed and developed 2012 Cruze Hatchback, ahead of its Geneva unveiling next month.
As expected, the five-door Cruze closely matches the Cruze Hatchback concept shown in September last year, arriving in production form with almost identical styling.
Despite its seemingly smaller shape, Holden says luggage capacity in the rear of the Cruze Hatchback is "close" to the 400 litre capacity of the Cruze sedan, and the rear seats feature a 60/40 split fold.
Local details have yet to be revealed, although it is likely that the five-door Cruze Hatchback will share its trim and engine options with the sedan.
The Cruze sedan is currently offered in Australia with a 105kW 1.8 litre petrol engine, and a 110kW 2.0 litre diesel engine.
Designed and built in Australia, the Cruze Hatchback will be marketed as a global model for GM - wearing the Chevrolet badge and face in most markets - with assembly for the Australian market to be carried out right here at home from late 2011, alongside the Cruze sedan.
