Citroen's Alfa MiTo-rivalling DS3 light car joins the C3 in the brand's Australian-market shuffle this week, picking up price cuts, new features and a new heart for the DStyle variant.

Developing 70kW and 136Nm of torque, the new "VTi 95" 1.4 litre engine replaces the outgoing model's 88kW and 160Nm 1.6 litre engine.

Although power is down, fuel consumption has also fallen, with the new engine returning figures of 5.5 l/100km compared to 7.0 l/100km for the 1.6 mill.

Citroen says the DStyle's new engine will propel the hatch to 100km/h in 13.2 seconds (up from 10.9), and top speed is limited to 184km/h.

The DS3 DStyle features a "roboticised EGS manual" (electronic sequential automatic) five-speed transmission, replacing the previous model's four-speed.

Power for the top-shelf DS3 DSport THP155 remains unchanged at 115kW at 6000rpm and 240Nm between 1400 and 4000rpm.

Mated to Citroen's six-speed MCM manual transmission, the DSport lists a 0-100km/h time of 7.3 seconds and fuel consumption figures of 6.7 l/100km on the combined cycle.

As for upgraded features, the 2012 DS3 DStyle adds climate control to its standard features list, and both the DStyle and DSport have added Bluetooth and USB/Aux connectivity as standard.



For 2012, Citroen's local distributor Ateco has knocked a whopping $6000 off the price of both variants, pulling both beneath $30,000.

Excluding on-road costs, the DStyle is now priced at $26,990, and the DSport at $29,990.

We commented at release that the DS3 was overpriced (see our launch review here), and it seems Australian buyers agreed. At these new prices, it's quite reasonable buying.
