BMW Motorrad's S 1000 RR Sportsbike has just copped an update. It's only two years since launch but nothing stands still in the pursuit of performance.

Already as sharp as a switchblade, the revisions to the S 1000 RR have been designed for "punchier" power and throttle response, and improved agility.

While there have been no changes to power output of 142 kW and a 'wet-weight' of 204 kilograms (including 90 percent fuel), the throttle has been reconfigured for a tighter twist-grip angle and improved sensitivity.

The torque curve has also been revised for a more linear delivery. So it's quicker friends.

It also carries BMW's familiar safety features - coming with advanced Race ABS and dynamic traction control.

Some of the more significant modifications are down below. There is a new internal structure to the upside-down fork and rear shock to provide a wide range of damping forces from comfort to performance, plus an adjustable mechanical steering damper.

Suspension geometry has also been modified with new values for the steering head angle, offset, position of the swing-arm pivot, fork projection, and rear shock-length for improved steering accuracy and rider feedback.

Visually, you'll pick the new model by a leaner tail-section, some subtle changes to the asymmetrical side panels, and the centre airbox cover now sports side-aperture grilles.

There are also two winglets on top of the side panels for enhanced aerodynamics, gloss black wheels and red spring in the rear shock. The matching swing-arm is either anodised or black.

There is also a redesigned LCD instrument cluster (with new functions "Best lap in progress" and "Speedwarning") for better readability and with five dimming levels.

A HP titanium exhaust system, HP race data logger and heated grips number among a range of options.

The new S 1000 RR comes in four new colour variants: Racing Red with Alpine white, Bluefire, Sapphire black metallic, and BMW Motorrad Motorsport colours. RRP has not yet been announced (we'll amend the post when pricing details become available).
