BMW has had the wind taken out of its sails once more, with official images of the all-new 2012 BMW M5 appearing online this week ahead of its scheduled Frankfurt Motor Show unveiling in September.

The leak comes just weeks after images and details for the 2012 1 Series Hatch surfaced in the media, followed days later by an official online unveiling.

On the styling front, the new M5 offers few surprises, with virtually of the earlier Concept M5's features carrying over into the production model.

Official details remain unclear for now, but according to German website AutoZeitung, we can expect the new M5's twin-turbo V8 to deliver a hefty 410kW - bettering its predecessor by more than 30kW.

Torque will also increase, with reports claiming twist figures of around 690Nm - a massive jump up from the previous model's 520Nm.

With power channeled through a dual-clutch transmission, the new M5 will reportedly hit 100km/h in 4.4 seconds.

A manual transmission is also expected to appear in the new M5 line-up, although its 0-100km/h time is unlikely to be much quicker than the auto - if at all.

The 2012 M5 will make its global debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, but as with the new 1 Series, official details could be released in the coming weeks.
