2012 BMW 6 SERIES COUPE
Kicking off the two-spec range, the 640i Coupe is powered by a turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine, producing 235kW (up 35kW) at 5800rpm and 450Nm of torque between 1300 to 4500rpm.
Mated to an eight-speed automatic with paddle shifters (a first for the 6 Series Coupe), the 640i will hit 100km/h in 5.4 seconds.
With the benefit of auto stop-start and BMW's ECO PRO system, the 640i's fuel consumption is listed at 7.7 l/100km.
The top-shelf 650i Coupe is driven by a 4.4 litre turbocharged V8 engine that delivers a hefty 300kW (up 30kW) at 5500rpm and 600Nm between 1750 and 4500rpm.
Paired with the same eight-speed auto, the 650i will hit 100km/h in 4.9 seconds. Considerably more thirsty, but healthy for a V8 engine, the 650i's fuel consumption is listed at 10.4 l/100km.
The 2+2 seating 6 Series Coupe is larger all-round than its predecessor, measuring 4894mm long, 1369mm tall and 1894mm wide.
Its wheelbase is also 75mm longer, promising greater comfort for rear passengers than the usual 'glorified parcel shelf' of many 2+2 coupes.
Rear storage capacity is 460 litres (on par, for instance, with a typical 'medium' sedan).
Standard features for the Australian-delivered 6 Series Coupe range includes BMW's ConnectedDrive system, featuring Head Up Display, internet, navigation and voice recognition.
There is also keyless entry, LED fog lights, Adaptive Bi-Xenon headlights with High Beam Assist, Park Distance Control front and rear, Cruise Control with automatic braking function, Rear View Camera and an electric glass sunroof.
The 650i adds Adaptive Drive, "Comfort Seats" with ventilation, automatic soft-close function for doors, and HiFi Soundsystem Professional, along with BMW’s innovative ‘Surround View’ and TV function.
