BMW Australia has announced local pricing for its all-new 3 Series Sedan line-up ahead of its February 2012 sales debut.

Kicking off at $60,900 for the entry-level 320d, the range moves through to the $66,900 328i and tops out at $91,900 for the 335i flagship.

In the case of the 328i, BMW has cut $5000 from the price of the 325i that it replaces, while the 335i is 15 percent cheaper than the last pricing for its predecessor - although that one comes with the pricey M Sport kit as standard.

Powertrains for the new 3 Series include a 135kW/380Nm four-cylinder diesel in the 320d, a 180kW/350Nm turbo four-cylinder petrol engine in the 328i, and a 225kW/400Nm turbo six-cylinder petrol engine in the 335i.

All three variants are fitted with an eight-speed Sports Automatic transmission as standard, a first in the medium luxury class.

Features

The new 3 Series rides on a 50mm longer wheelbase and offers an overall length increase of 93mm, freeing up interior space and increasing rear storage capacity to 480 litres.

Standard features for the Australian-delivered 3 Series will include dual-zone climate control, cruise control with braking, power-adjustable front seats with memory functions, automatic lights and wipers, and Park Distance Control.

There is also a 6.5-inch colour display, along with USB audio activity, Bluetooth hands-free calling, and "Dakota" leather upholstery throughout.

While the 320d will feature a six-speaker sound system, the mid-range 328i adds BMW's Navigation System Business package and a nine-speaker arrangement. Both variants are fitted with 17-inch alloy wheels.

In top-shelf 335i trim, the new 3 Series gets Navigation System Professional, which adds a 12gb hard-disc for music storage, Bluetooth audio streaming, voice control and internet connectivity.

The 335i also gets a 16-speaker Harman Kardon surround-sound package, along with Bi-Xenon headlights and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Three trim and equipment grades will be offered in 2012:

BMW 320d

  • Modern Line - $3100
  • Sport / Luxury Line - $4100

BMW 328i / 335i

  • Modern Line - $1000
  • Sport / Luxury Line - $2000

Safety

Safety features across the range includes six airbags and Dynamic Stability Control with ABS, Brake Assistant, Cornering Brake Control and Dynamic Traction Control.

All three variants also feature a new Active Protection system that initiates a number of protective measures if the computer determines that an accident is imminent.
