2012 BMW 125i On Sale In Australia

BMW has announced the Australian debut of the new range-topping variant in the local 1 Series line-up, the 125i.

Powered by the all-new 2.0 litre twin-scroll turbo engine, dubbed TwinPower by BMW, the 125i kicks out 160kW and 310Nm. It will be usefully quicker than the already impressive 118i (which delivers 125kW and 250Nm and is good for a 7.5-second sprint to 100km/h).

In manual form, the 125i will hit 100km/h in a Golf R-scaring 6.4 seconds.

Fuel economy is much-improved over the the 125i coupe (a holdover from the previous 1 Series range), returning a claimed 6.6l/100km.

On top of the standard spec available for the Australian 1 Series, the 125i will sport 17-inch alloy wheels, leather steering wheel and variable sports steering.

M Sport

The arrival of the 125i is accompanied by the introduction of the new 1 Series M Sport package.

The package is available for all but the 116i, and adds sports seats, M steering wheel, aero kit, 18-inch wheels, leather and an extra setting, Sport +, in the 1 Series' Experience Control feature.

Additional options such as Estoril Blue paint, upgraded M Sport brakes and reduced pricing on the adaptive M suspension can be added to an M Sport 1-series. The M Sport package carries a $5385 premium.

The 125i will be priced at $45,700 (before on-roads), a premium of $2000 over the current range-topper, the 118d, and is available from March production, meaning we'll be seeing the first 125i on our roads around June.
