Audi has released a handful of teaser illustrations for its upcoming 2012 Q3, just hours after announcing a Shanghai Auto Show for the compact SUV later this month.
Looking like a pint-sized version of its mid-size Q5 stablemate, the new crossover continues the design language featured across the Audi range, including the large trapezoid grille and sharp headlights.
The new Q3 illustrations also reveal a strong connection with the Audi Cross Coupe concept that first sparked speculation that Audi would bring an A3-based SUV to market.
Inside, the Q3 again follows the styling set out by the Q5, although a centre-mounted air vent replaces the infotainment screen of the Q5. Instead, a screen is likely to rise up from the top of the centre stack.
Mechanical specifications have yet to be revealed, although the Q3 will likely draw power from a range of Volkswagen-sourced petrol and diesel engines.
Setting it apart from its Volkswagen cousins, the Q3 will likely offer sharper performance and handling - Audi has previously described the Q3 as "supremely sporty."
It is already known that the Q3 will be built at SEAT's plant in Martorell, Spain, with production capacity for around 80,000 units each year.
The smallest SUV in the Audi line-up, the Q3 will join the mid-sized Q5 (built in Ingolstadt, Germany) and the larger Q7 (built in Slovakia).
